kar-
kar- creates furniture that exists between sculpture and function—objects to be used, but also felt. Each piece is a quiet convergence of form, emotion, and presence, shaped by hand and rooted in the belief that design is not a solution, but a reflection.
The name kar- derives from the Sanskrit root of “karma”—a nod to the traces that all actions leave behind. Their works carry the weight of process: the rhythm of making, the memory of material, and the intimacy of touch. A stool, a chair, a table—none are mass-produced, and none are ever repeated. Each is an emotional imprint in physical form.
While fiberglass was once central to their practice, kar- has since expanded into other mediums—wood, stone, resin, textile—always led by texture, weight, and a sense of ritual minimalism. Surfaces are hand-sanded over days to achieve a softness that contradicts structure. Edges blur. Shapes quiet themselves. And function becomes a vehicle for atmosphere, not utility.
kar- does not build furniture to fill a space. They build to hold something less tangible—a pause, a mood, a memory.
To live with a kar- piece is to live with form that listens.
SOTACA on kar-
We see in kar- a rare emotional precision. Their works do not announce themselves, but remain—silently anchoring the spaces they enter. In a world of noise, kar- creates presence.
SOTACA Pairing Note
Ideal for spaces that prioritize texture and resonance. Pair with soft concrete, matte plaster, unfinished timber, or heavy silence. Let the piece breathe.
